These are checks to help ensure that data that is inputted is correct. There are a variety of checks as follows: Verification: - The most common form of verification is the double entry system. This is where the information has to be entered twice and has to be identical on both occasions. Validation: - This is the name given to the checks a computer can carry out when data is input. Whatever form of inoput device used, some form of check can bae made on the data entering the computer. Example: - A database field in a scondary school timetable package contains information about the teacher, subject and year group. This information is coded as follows: GWI09PHY The teacher's first name is the first character. The teachers surname is the next two characters. The year group is the next two characters. The name of the subject is the next three characters.
