The term "medical malpractice" is gaining more popularity among doctors. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it could be defined as "a dereliction of professional duty or a failure to exercise an accepted degree of professional skill or learning by one (as a physician) rendering professional services which results in injury, loss, or damage." Malpractice occurs throughout most of the branches of medicine, and almost ninety percent of all the medical negligence goes undetected. To prevent their licenses from being revoked, or to prevent any loss of funds, doctors try to protect themselves against malpractice by using different methods.
Patients sue their physicians for a wide array of reasons. One of the most common reasons is that doctors fail to diagnose a health problem, such as breast cancer, in a timely manner. Doctors often tend to rely too much on a falsely negative mammogram, which leads to failure or delay in diagnosis of breast cancer. Patients are advised to consult with their physician if they detect a palpable lump, or if they have a breast complaint. Mammography is a poor diagnostic tool with false negative rates of as high as 20 percent.
Once diagnosed, the patient is followed for a month to determine whether or not the patient requires needle aspiration or excisional biopsy, which are more precise in determining if the lump is cancerous or not...
