In comparing and contrasting Hobbes and Locke one can find great distinctions between both. Hobbes came from England in 1588 where he was educated at Oxford. His family was extremely well known and associated with the Cavendish family that was a great influence on Hobbes. He was privileged enough to meet Galileo and Descartes among others. Hobbes was fascinated with mathematics and joined a small group of thinkers who saw geometry as the key to the study of nature. As a political philosopher, Hobbes frequently is considered the father of modern totalitarianism. Hobbes looked at political philosophy as a variation of the science of physics. He hoped that if political theory could be formulated with logically consistent in his systematic political philosophy. According to Hobbes, philosophy is concerned with the causes and characteristics of bodies: physical bodies, the human bodies, and body politic. All share a characteristic of motion...
