Anorexia Nervosa is the "nervous want of appetite." (Smith)
People with anorexia starve themselves by not eating or eating very little for periods of time. They see themselves as fat, even though they're extremely thin. In some cases, the person becomes so thin that they have to be hospitalized.
The official definition of anorexia is "when a person eats so little that their weight drops at least fifteen percent below normal body weight." People with anorexia become dangerously obsessed with how much they weigh and what they eat. (Smith)
No one knows exactly why a person becomes anorexic. It's a problem that has baffled psychologists and can have intense physical effects, even death. People who are anorexic think that their lives would be better if they only weighed fifteen pounds lighter. It doesn't stop when they have reached those fifteen pounds...
