PUBLIC OPINON
Public opinion for the most part involves the different views of individuals or subgroups about a particular issue that leans towards a governmental matter. The assigned chapters in Bardes', Rosentone's, and Erikson's texts influenced my opinion on the definition of public opinion. Once the readings were completed the following definition came about: Public opinion addresses the feelings of an individual, in the most part an adult population, regarding a present issue that can be currently taking place in society or outside of the United States of America. Public Opinion should specifically represent important and useful views of individuals who are somewhat educated in the field. The individual or subgroup that participates in public opinion should comprehend the matter that has been or will be addressed as well as the question being asked.
The reason why the groups of people who are opinionating about a particular issue need a background in the field of politics is that they can make an important change in the polling system. Those who do not have a background, for instance, in governmental policies cannot give a strong opinion because other pollsters will influence them and they do not have the supporting documentation to back them up. There could be a possibility that the individual who does not have a background in politics is potentially influenced, as I was, or manipulated to feel a particular way. Incorporating the opinions of others into yours does not give an accurate or reliable reading of the polling system.
