Evel Knievel: A Living Legend
If you are familiar with motorcycles, then you know Evel Knievel. If you were around during the '60s and '70s, you've probably at least heard of him. His name is synonymous with the sport of motorcycle riding, kind of like Michael Jordan with basketball. Stunt riding has been around since the 1920s, but Evel took it to a whole new level (Johnson). He got the ball rolling for modern extreme sports like freestyle motocross. He was the first to do the things that he did, which is why I consider him to be the greatest motorcycle stunt rider of all time.
Evel was born Robert Craig Knievel on October 17, 1938 in the mining town of Butte, Montana. When he was a little over a year old his parents got divorced and went their separate ways, moving out of Butte. Robert and his little brother Nicholas were left to be raised by their grandparents.
