In the film, "Jaws", by Steven Spielberg the filmmaker uses a variety of techniques in order to attract the viewer's attention and create an atmosphere of fear. Jaws illustrates a plethora of conflicts such as social, territorial and psychological. Human's fear the unknown and movies utilize this tool to create a more successful work, since it can subsequently attract the viewer. Media effects human perceptions in many ways and in this case a fear against nature. Jaws is an example of a movie that when analyzing techniques the director has used, the viewer can receive a deeper understanding of a theme such as fear over nature.
The movie takes place on a beach filled with people that have decided to spend their day out in the sun. The conflict of the story begins with the introduction of a shark in the scene where people are enjoying their time. This shows how a predator invades a human territory and disrupts a peaceful environment. The movie encircles a "sub-theme" of conflict between shark and man. Territoriality becomes part of the puzzle of fear and nature, by having the shark use his teeth to claim his land and decides not to depart until all the food resources are exhausted...
