Solutions to the gaming addiction problem
One possible solution to the problem with addiction to multi-player gaming is to reduce the incentives that induce addictive behavior in computer gamers. Frequent users should not be rewarded with positions of responsibility so their work is not rewarded strongly enough to fuel an addiction. Unfortunately, this is not an effective remedy since it would hurt the game experience and decrease the satisfaction of the non-addicted users. At the same time, it would not significantly decrease the addictive aspects of the computer game, especially anonymity and positive reinforcement. Since this change would not increase the benefit to society, we cannot consider this proposition an viable alternative.
Another possible solution would be to provide incentives for game operators to monitor on the amount of time that each character spends playing their game. In this way, the game itself could warn users exhibiting addictive behavior. On one hand, this might have positive effects because it could prevent some computer addictive behavior, it could also force addicts to go to greater lengths to continue their behavior. These actions could range from the creation of additional personalities to use, or even more sophisticated techniques to fool the monitoring software. Moreover, game companies have no actual incentive to monitor their users to reduce gaming time...
