"It was the wildest of parties. And it lasted a decade." F. Scott Fitzgerald and his family were considered royalty during this era, living a lavish and luxurious lifestyle. Many of his works, especially The Great Gatsby mirrored the life he loved yet at the same time despised. All of this occurred during the time previuos to the Great Depression. The themes that pervaded this novel are many of the same things that people during this time period experienced. A desire to acquire wealth and luxury, grand parties in which frivolous behavior was promoted and people lacked a moral consciousness took place throughout this time period as well as throughout this novel. This even occured in the various films of the Great Gatsbt,
Throughout this novel the people of the "roaring twenties" as they were known can be described as materialistic, and obsessed with money and stature. Gatsby makes up a background of nobleness and wealthy-ness just to acquire acceptance from his peers...
