No Man is an Island

"No man is an island entire of itself" is the concept brought about to us in Meditation 17 by John Donne (Donne 272). He is informing his readers that no one is alone in this world no matter how much they believe they are because we are all a part of a bigger picture as one. He compares people to a clod of clay on a continent, which says that even if a small piece of clay washes away then the whole continent is now changed and affected. As if one person dies in this world then it changes the whole view of the world and everyone is altered in some way. Donne also compares us to a book as that we are all different chapters but part of one volume of which he is the author. And that when we die that our chapters are not lost but merely translated into another language. Donne saying that we are not isolated is completely true in that somehow we all interact with each other constantly so we couldn't possibly be alone.
Being an only child is hard sometimes and when you have no siblings you look to other members of your family for the support you would usually get from brothers or sisters. My cousin has always been my support and the one who's been there no matter what. One day, when I was only nine, they came to visit and that day it was snowing like crazy outside...
