Does anyone ever wonder about an epic hero named Beowulf? Beowulf is a character in "Beowulf" an epic poem by Dr. David Breeden. Often students think about Beowulf's characteristics and why he's an epic hero. Beowulf is larger than life, he is victorious in battle and he upholds his values.
Beowulf shows many instances where he is larger than life. At first a student would think him to be an ordinary guy. When Beowulf was on his way to fight Grendel's mother, he swam and "For hours he sank through the waves" (572). Finally when he came upon her lair "he saw/ The mighty water witch, and swung his sword, / His ring marked blade, straight at her head'/ The iron sang its fierce song, / Sang Beowulf's strength" (594-598). This is an obvious larger than life trait...
