CEREBRAL INJURIES HX Presentation TX
CONCUSSION Bruising on side of impact (coup injury) or contralaterally (countercoup injury) Transient loss of consciousness with bradycardia, hypotension, respiratory arrest for a few seconds. Retrograde and posttraumatic amnesia. Sometimes followed by transient neuro deficit.
CONTUSION Injury that does not disrupt integrity of skin, caused by blow to body, edema, hemorrhage, necrosis. Loss of consciousness longer than with concussion. May lead to death or severe residual neuro deficits.
SKULL FRACTURE Signs occur 27 to 72 hours after injury. Bruising around the orbit (raccoon sign). Blood in external auditory (Battle's sign) Leakage of CSF (can tell by glucose content) from ear or nose. CN Palsies Simple skull fracture no TX...
