Behind the beautiful wallpapered walls and newly painted doorframes of the house you just purchased danger may lurk. Homes are being remolded and sold every day that harbor dangerous and deadly lead paint. Locally, the City of Norfolk has been battling Lead Poisoning cases where many children have become severely affected. Though hundreds are affected each year, this normally is from the negligence of a home seller, landlord or renovator/contractor. Laws and regulations are currently in place but are broken everyday throughout our area, which result in numbers of children being diagnosed with Lead Poisoning.
Lead Poisoning is a condition caused by a person inhaling lead dust or ingesting lead particles such as paint chips. Lead can be found in old plumbing which puts lead directly into household water used for cooking, cleaning and drinking. Lead dust can be found in paint used prior to 1978, leaded gasoline and other building material manufactured prior to 1978. Lead Poisoning is most dangerous to children under the age of 6 (EPA).
