Mass Relationships In chemical Reactions
Purpose:
1. To predict the mass of the Cu(s) that will be produced when 2.50g CuSO 5H O reacts with excess zinc.
2. To react the two substances, purify the Cu(s) and determine its mass.
3. Evaluate the success of the experiment by calculating the percent error.
Background/Introduction:
This lab is about using our stoichiometry skills to predict the mass of solid copper Cu(s) in the single replacement equation:
CuSO 5H O (aq) + Zn(s) ZnSO (aq) + Cu(s)
Stoichiometry is a method of predicting the amount or amounts of products using the amount or amounts of reactants. In this lab we will conduct an experiment to determine the exact mass of solid copper Cu(s) produced. By comparing the results of the prediction and experiment we will find the percent error...
