Information on Admission Requirements ˇ Please check our university calendar for complete details of admission requirements. Applications for admission are considered once a year to the Fall semester only. The deadline for submission of applications is February 15. Consideration will be given to the courses for which students are registered at the time of application. ˇ To be considered for admission students must have successfully completed sixty (60) credit hours as outlined below with either a cumulative average of at least 65% or an average of at least 65% on the last thirty (30) credit hours which they have successfully completed. The sixty (60) credit hours are: o twelve credit hours in English including two first year courses and English 2390 and English 3650. o Mathematics 1050 and 1051 or the former Mathematics 1080 and 1081 or Mathematics 1000 (or a focus area in Mathematics). o Psychology 1000 and 1001. o Science 1150 and 1151, or nine credit hours in Science, three credit hours each to be chosen from Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or Physics (or a focus area in Science). o Six credit hours chosen in any combination from Anthropology, Economics, Folklore, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology. o a standard of French acceptable to the Faculty. Students who have successfully completed any of the following will be deemed to have met the standard: the former French 1011 or higher, French 1500 or higher, a grade of 4 or better on the Advanced Placement French Language examination, permission of the Department of French and Spanish to enter French 1502 or higher. o fifteen credit hours as part of a Focus Area (as listed in MUN Calendar 2002-2003). o additional credit hours from areas other than Education. ˇ In assessing applications to the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) degree program, consideration will be given to student's: a. average in the courses required for admission in a-e above b. overall academic performance; and c. personal statement, references and resumé as outlined on the application to the Faculty. All students will attend full time during the Professional Year, that involves both a specific set of courses and a field experience. The Professional Year is followed by a full semester teaching internship and a subsequent semester of study intended to allow students to build on strengths and remedy weaknesses that may have become apparent during the internship. Basic computer keyboarding skills will be expected during the first semester of this program.
