Literary Analysis of Ernest Hemingways a Soldiers Home

In Ernest Hemingway's short story, Soldier's Home, the consequences a soldier faces due to war are expressed in Krebs arrival home. Before the war, Krebs attended a Methodist college where he was a part of a fraternity and fit in very well. Following the war, Krebs did not return home till almost a year later, and with his return, he was a different man. It is common knowledge that most men return home from a war with many physical wounds: however, Krebs' only wound is mental. Feeling out of place and in a different world, Krebs no longer feels as though he has a purpose in life. These are all devastating characteristics brought on by the experiences of war.
As a young American man, Krebs fit in very well. While attending school in Kansas, "There is a picture which shows him among his fraternity brothers, all of them wearing exactly the same height and style collar"(page 653). It is apparent in the picture that Krebs was normal and had a purpose for life. But after the war, another picture had been taken, and Krebs was no longer the same...
