Sexual assault is an issue that is affecting our community both nationally and locally. Rape has become increasingly more prevalent in our society, so prevalent that our own university is being investigated for an alleged rape by athletes during a recruitment party. Most of the people who receive the information of a sexual assault from an objective point of view feel that people who commit these atrocities are bad people and were born that way, but those who make these points could not be further from the truth, and in actuality are hurting the movement to stop these actions by ignoring the true cause of the problem. If they were to look closer into homes they would find exactly what they are looking for, the main cause of sexual assaults.
A great example of the lack of teaching within our homes is the tragic story that Bernard Leftkowitz tells of Leslie Faber, a mentally challenged girl who was raped by several boys in her neighborhood.
