The Glass Menagerie Essay
Tennesse Williams spends a great deal of time establishing the time period of the play and the world events that were occurring at the time. In The Glass Menagerie these world events gave an importance to the themes and events of the play.
There were many different events in the world occurring that had made a negative and devastating impact on those who live at the time. The time period was the early 1930's, a time when nearly all hope had been lost. There were a several events happening at this time period that ade the atmosphere of the play more realistic.
The Great Depression of 1929 became the worst economic crisis in the history of the United States. It had devastating effects on all sectors of the economy for over a decade. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, businesses failed and financial institutions collapsed. Many people were going through one of the roughest times of their lives.
