Given the uncertain nature of the future, our government is left to protect and serve its citizens on a reactive basis. The United States Constitution stipulates a law must be broken, and then, certain procedures and processes can and will be pursued. However, the movie, Minority Report starring Tom Cruise, visits a different concept of law enforcement. The movie regales the thought of a government system based on proactive methods rather than reactive ones. In this film, people are arrested and convicted for murder, which are not based on the act itself, but rather to visions of three psychic individuals. How apt would citizens be in giving up liberties in order to accommodate a system that would arrest and convict people of murder based on crimes that will occur in the future? Minority Report elects to address the moral and legal flaws presented in such a system.
The United States Constitution was created and has for many years been enlisted by the government in order to ensure the same liberties for all of its citizens. A system based on the visions of three individuals already compromises the rights and liberties of every other citizen. The constitution respects the notion that balance must be present in our system...
