Abstract
The current nursing shortage has many health care facilities focusing on retention. One area that helps retention is to provide a better working environment for the nurses? Recently there has been a great deal of focus on the nurse-physician relationship. ... Nurses and physicians must improve their working relations to ensure this is not a cause for dissatisfaction in the work place that causes nurse to look elsewhere.

     Many years ago nurses truly functioned almost like a handmaiden to physicians. ... Unfortunately, even today nurses must deal with difficulties with the nurse-physician relationship. ... There has been much written related to nurse-physician relationships over the past several years.
     According to the Rosenstein study (2002) 96% of nurses stated they had witnessed or experienced disruptive behavior of a physician. ...
