Marriage: To Be or Not To Be?
Introduction and Hypotheses:
Marriage. It is believed to be one of the most significant steps in one's life. Almost every female dreams of a day when she will get married and more or less every male is scared of and unsure about this important decision. Yet, today, when the institution of marriage seems to be less and less respected, and 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, many people are postponing marriage or cohabiting prior marriage. Numerous researches and studies, conducted by sociologists and various organizations, show that over the period of last few decades the percentage of married couples is decreasing. These studies demonstrate that the marriage rates depend on several factors: one's gender, social class, education, race, and etc. In my research, I want to examine how marriage rates differ for two major racial groups in the United States Non-Hispanic Whites and African Americans.
Is marriage just simply falling out of fashion for African Americans more than for Whites? I assume there is more than just a matter of tastes...
