The film 'Shakespeare In Love' gives the audience watching an insight into Shakespeare's life and what inspired him to write such interesting plays. The director of the film has made many of the scenes link to 'Romeo and Juliet'; one of Shakespeare's most famous plays and one that is well known by many people. So this will make an audience understand and become familiar with certain parts of the film.
Cinematic techniques like lighting, sound, camerawork and visual affects make the film more interesting by giving us an idea of how certain characters feel and help us to judge what type of person they are. This essay will focus on how these are used.
Also it will focus on how the director uses in-jokes and familiar scenes from Romeo and Juliet to capture a viewer's interest so easily.
The beginning of the film indicates the location and time it is set in, in a number of ways. It starts off with a black screen with writing on it explaining where and when the film is set. The title of the film is written on the screen in the writing that Shakespeare would use for his signature and looks as if it had been written with a feather and ink, as most people did use that in those days. Then the background slowly disappears but writing saying 'The Rose' stays on and then the camera is just looking at an old fashioned thatched roof...
