In class we described religion in a few different ways; however my view of religion is very different from this. Religion can be different for every person, and there are many different views and beliefs. In this paper, I will discuss the definition and description of religion, the four different types of gods, and the various types of religion, and how my ideas of religion are different from those we discussed.
First, as discussed in class, religion in its most simple terms refers to a set of beliefs that unifies a fractured state of existence. This description is taken from the meaning of the words re- to do again and leg- to put together. We also spoke about Claude Levi-Straus who believed that religion is a condition of human existence. He said that religion tries to "overcome opposites" But the question remains how did religion fall apart?
Religion is guidance, to help one answer other questions such as; what is death, how should one live their life. In addition to these, it refers to questions about the natural world. These are said to include what is lighting and where do animals and people come from...
