To Live or To Die
Introduction: Two political candidates running for office, Robert and David, are debating the subject of whether the death penalty should be universally accepted and used, or should it be abolished. Is being put to death a better method of crime prevention than a lifetime of confinement in a penitentiary? David is opposed to the death penalty and thinks there are other alternatives, while Robert is in favor of the death penalty. They are in the middle of a general debate when the topic arises.
David: I do not think that the death penalty is the best way to deal with the most heinous of criminals because killing is wrong, regardless of the circumstances. It does not matter if the murder is committed in a fit of rage, as an act of self-defense, or on Death Row. I do not believe that is it right to think that taking a life to avenge the death of another is just. Criminals can be dealt with in other ways. While many criminals may spend the rest of their lives in jail, it is better than being put to death.
Robert: While committing murder is never right, getting a criminal off of the streets once and for all is the best way to be sure that he or she never commit a crime again...
