For the last five weeks our group has been researching, examining, discussing, and learning about one of the largest and most influential companies in the world; that company is GE. In our paper we will discuss this company's core competencies, financial performance, global strategy, leadership, corporate strategies, marketing, government relations, and their corporate citizenship.
Core Competency
GE is a learning company whose core value is not manufacturing or services, but the global recruiting and nurturing of the world's best people and the cultivation in them of an insatiable desire to learn, to stretch and do things better every day. GE maintains that through the caliber of excellent employees that they are able to offer the diverse products and services to the global marketplace.
Nine ways of achieving and maintaining GE's core competency
Relishing Change This idea is based on the thought that if the rate of change inside an institution becomes slower then the rate of change outside, the end is in sight. The only question is when.
Customer Focused GE does its very best to fix its face on customers by focusing Sigma Six on their needs. GE has completed more then 20,000 Six-Sigma projects "at the customer, for the customer," last year.
Using size GE is not compulsive to manage its size and implementing more and more structure and bureaucracy, leading to stifled and frustrated people. GE views size very differently, they constantly are striving for the spirit and quickness of a small company, while at the same time enjoying the ability to take larger risk...
