For centuries people have been criticized and put down because they were different. African Americans were enslaved for years merely because of their skin color. Jews have been criticized for a long time as well, simply because of their religion. And now there is the issue of whether or not gays have the right to be able to marry. Does the government have the jurisdiction to not allow two people the right to marry just because they are of the same sex? Personally I believe the government has no right to deny two lovers, no matter what their sexuality might be, their right to marry each other. For decades homosexuals have been hiding, too embarrassed to "come out of the closet" because of the criticism that would certainly face them. But due to the equal rights movements of the past few decades more and more of them have been becoming open about their sexuality, thus making the issue of them being able to marry a question of increasing significance.
America has been known as the "Land of the Free" and has been a place of refuge for foreigners trying to get away from persecution. This nation has been built on the issue of equality...
