The cell cycle
The cell cycle is the sequence of growth and division of a cell.
As cell proceed through the cycle, they will go under through two general periods, a growth period and a division period.
The growth period is known as interphase and the division period is known as mitosis.
Interphase
Most of the cell's life is spent in the stage of interphase.
During this stage a cell will grow in size, and carries on metabolic process.
The chromosomes during this stage are duplicated in preparation for the period of division.
Interphase
Chromosomes are made of DNA and contain the masters instructions for the cell.
The new cell must have a complete copy of the DNA in order to function correctly.
Steps to Interphase
Is the busiest time in the cell cycle because the cell is making ATP, repairing itself, excreting waste, making protein, producing new organelles such as the chromosomes.
DNA synthesis does not occur all through interphase but at a specific time or window...
