If I were to do a thematic unit with books

If I were to choose a topic to do a thematic unit on, I would have to pick courage. The reason I have picked this unit is because I have 3 texts in mind that would go perfectly in the unit.
I think every child goes through tough times when they are young, especially when starting school and being scared of many aspects, whether it is leaving home, meeting new friends, and hoping you get a good teacher. Having books I could look at that expressed to me that there were other kids out there that went through some of the same things I did was of great comfort. I think doing a unit on courage would let the kids know that it is OK to be afraid sometimes, but that there are also ways to help.
As a young child, I always remember loving all the vivid and bright colors of the picture books that my elementary school teachers read to me. I never liked a lot of words, so the pictures are what I mainly focused on. I loved the detail in pictures, being able to recognize that items in the pictures were things that I had in my own home.
The picture book that I thought would represent courage well is The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. The story itself is about a young raccoon who is scared of going off to school...
