Arab Israeli Conflict
In the beginning of the Arab-Israeli conflict, western intervention has escalated the tension and has perhaps even amplified the hostility. However, today the United States plays a key role in initiating peace negations and has a primary goal of keeping casualties, of both sides, to a minimum.
The clash between Palestinian Arabs and Jews began around the turn of the 20th century. Although these two groups have different religions, their spiritual dissimilarities are not the cause of the conflict. Ultimately it has been a battle over land. Preceding 1948, the area that both groups claimed, was known worldwide as Palestine. Following the war of 1948, this land was divided into three parts: the state of Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The question that had been posed since the beginning of this conflict: Who really has the right to this land?
Israel became a nation about 1300 BC, two thousand years before the emergence of Islam. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BC, the Jews have had control over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years...
