The Joy Luck Club

The Joy Luck Club is a story about for women who immigrate from china to America. They each tell a story about their lives in china and their lives in America. The story is also about the daughters of these four women, and the Chinese values their mother tries to teach them.
We learn of their childhood in china. One example is An-Mei Hsu's childhood. She grew up hearing her grandmother and uncle call her mother a ghost, and she was told never to speak her mother's name. This didn't mean her mother was dead, it meant that her mother had brought dishonor to her family, and was no longer welcomed there. Her mother remarried as a fourth concubine to a rich Chinese man name Wu Tsing, after her first husband died. In china, woman were not aloud to remarry, after their husband died they were supposed to mourn their death forever. As a fourth concubine, An-Mei's mother was treated like leftover garbage by her husband...
