The sound of the instrument is actually just one single note that plays on for a little over two minutes. However, this single entity becomes music due to the progression of added effects on the continuous, computerized violin-sounding note. Thus the computer recording / processing allows the note to be prolonged for such amount of time. Essentially the note is a perfect entity that does not waver in pitch, tempo, or timbre. It seems that the goal of piece is to imply a sense of minimalist thinking. The composition itself has strip away the fancy covering of traditional note progressions, elaborate harmonies, and catchy melodies. The sound effects narrate the story of the piece causing thought provoking responses instead predetermined feelings given by traditional popular music. It removes itself from categorization and classification. It does not possess a key signature or time signature. It cannot be determined as a major key that denotes a happy feeling nor can it be established as minor key that invokes an emotional response of sadness. It is not here or there, it just exists as itself. The initial noise, which is just feedback, is rather displeasing to the ear. It does not exist as a definable note. It propels itself with time unlike the musical standard that uses pretty sounding note progressions in order to further the piece. In listening to this piece, one will not find the usual perfect 4th and 5th intervals. Instead it consists of dissonant sound. The composition creates a human binary response to the music. The ear merely hears two sounds the twisting of feedback and the pauses between them. The listener merely judges the progress of the piece by how many changes that occur. Thus the noise acts as the on and the pauses are the off. (One way or a second way). Since the listeners react to the changes of the piece, the feedback’s frequency of occurrence also shapes the overall impression of the piece. The noise starts shortly after the beginning but fades out just as quickly. After a few short burst, a very prolonged blast of feedback occurs. Then it fades out and the listener must anticipate when the noise will return.
