Problem
In the recent years, Dell has become the fastest growing company in the PC manufacturing industry. In the past three years while the PC sales are growing at 16.43%, Dell's growth rate is an impressive 39.2% per year . The key to Dell's success is its Direct Model. As a result of the Direct Model, Dell has been able to keep inventory low while continuing to increase market share year over year.
However in the recent year, Dell's success has attracted the attention of competitors such as IBM, Compaq and HP . These companies are all trying to imitate Dell's Direct Model and compete more directly with Dell. The next few years is without a doubt going to be one of Dell's most challenging year as competitors are starting to compete in the direct sales channel. What must Dell do to ensure its future success, growth and competitive edge?..
