After researching both of these topics I have noticed that history has a tendency to repeat itself. This is very obvious in The Red Scare and the The Crucible. Both stories deal with what happens when a town or colony is in chaos.. There were many of the same happenings in both works, there were also many differences in them as well. The most obvious difference is the time period in which they both occurred. The Red Scare took place in the 1950s and The Crucible occurred during the 1690s. Also, in The Red Scare, McCarthy's actions were driven by a hunger for power where Abigail was driven by a hunger for revenge and attention. Abigail also had another motive, she had tons of love for John Proctor and she would do anything to eliminate Elizabeth Proctor from the equation so she can have him all to himself. Another one of the similar incidences in both stories was the general nature of the people who accused, take Abigail Williams and Senator McCarthy for example, they were the accusers in both cases, Abigail Williams and Senator McCarthy seen as holding a high position or being the law, they were never questioned by the normal class people because of the fear of being suspected of something, and eventually being accused of interfering with the investigations of the court or some other wrong doing. This is the result of power given to the accusers to analyze the members of the colony or society without questioning their judgment, therefore stripping or robbing people of their natural born right to a fair trial that is not bias or unfair in any way..
