The term conflict may mean different things to different persons. It may be regarded as the disagreement or hostility between individuals or groups in the organization. It may even mean rivalry or competition or may be viewed as the perception of disagreement in the individuals. Stephen P. Robbins has defined conflict as follows:
"Conflict is a process in which an effort is purposefully made by one person or unit to block another that results in frustrating the attainment of the other's goals or the furthering of his or her interests."
It has been recognized that there are four basic causes for organizational conflict as follows:
1. Incompatible goals situation
2. Existences of incompatible means or incompatible resource allocations
3. Status incompatibility
4. Difference in perceptions
