If you were to ask me what a government is supposed to do I would probably say that a government is supposed to protect it's people. But the government shouldn't be like babysitting the citizens of the country or anything, I think it's up to the people to see how successful and strong their government is. I'll kind of show what the government should do to take care of it's citizens.
Like it says in the Declaration of Independence when it says "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." That's kind of what I think the purpose of a government is. Like during the Civil War when there was all these black slaves, who were obviously I guessed not created equal, should have had the same importance to the society and unalienable rights as the rest of the citizens. I think a government should bring a wide minority of people together to make it as strong as possible. If you have got a people not willing to believe in a single purpose then you are always fighting the different views of every different group or person.
Protecting the people should be a very big purpose of the government. If the people are not feeling safe or protected while in the country or state you are in, then you won't feel like staying there very much longer...
