The Weimar Constitution had many strengths and weaknesses, these led to its successes and also its downfalls. The Weimar Constitution was very democratic, in fact it was quoted to be the "most democratic in the world". This gave people full civil rights, led to the protection of trade unions to help the workers, and aided minorities with an emphasis on welfare. This was all very good for the German citizen and can be seen as a very positive side to being so democratic. However it was not received well by the German people. Although brilliant in theory the people of Germany were not ready for such a giant leap and shift in politics. They could not cope with a Democracy after being ruled for so many years by the Kaiser and the second Reich. The people wanted to be ruled to an extent, they wanted Ebert in a uniform not a top hat and tails. Therefore these radical new socialist and liberal agendas were not accepted by the people. The Weimar Constitution, being the most democratic parliament in the world, was a double edged sword...
