In my opinion, I do not agree with the working conditions of the women in the free trade zone of Sri Lanka. Regardless of gender, people should be given basic individual rights such as the right to protest working conditions without the fear of losing a job. Additionally, countries in export processing zones should have unions available and regulated by outside sources. Also, I think that larger wealthier countries who use the EPZ's need to allow time for the countries in the zones to establish economic benefits before they can move on to another country.
I believe that in the EPZ's women don't have equal rights. According to the terms in the contract usually found before employment, a woman has to resign from her job when she gets married. Even if a woman gets married, she should still have the right to continue working. It seems women are expected to stay home and have children, and I think that it should be her choice not the place of employment or society's choice.
According to the statistics, over 50% of the people in Sri Lanka have worked 30 overtime hours in a month. This is unfair for both men and women, because they don't have a choice...
