Jacksonian Era
Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States. During the two terms he served many revelations occurred, this time became known as the Jacksonian Era. At this time new political parties were forming as others fell to the waste side. Andrew Jackson played a vital role in the formation of this new party, still known as the Democratic Party. Jackson was the first Democratic president with an agenda for the people. He differed from prior presidents in that his agenda was to be the voice of the people, and to work for their interests.
Jackson's family immigrated to South Carolina from the north of Ireland in 1765. Only weeks before he was born in 1767, Jackson's father died, leaving his mother alone to raise three young boys. Andrew grew up in his uncle's household and received some formal education before quitting school at the age of thirteen to fight in the American Revolution.
