Martin Luther King Jr grew up in a religious household. ... It is almost as if King was born into a religious job, many families, especially sons, are expected to “carry on the trade” of the family. From what I have learnt about King during this project it seems that his ambition to “make a difference” shines through in every sentence I read. ... Being a figure that is admired and looked up to King had a lot of influence on peoples thoughts, hopes and dreams. King is a natural born leader and an extremely religious person. King becoming a minister compliments his personality and demeanour perfectly, his leadership abilities can be taken advantage of and his religion can be expressed in the most powerful way. The world would have been a much lesser place if King had become a plumber and lived a quiet life. ...
King’s vocation for being a minister was immense and his enthusiasm showed through threefold. ... King wanted the same thing as his followers and the people he preached to in church, he wanted equality. King didn’t want to be a superior race or be better than the Caucasian Americans. King maintained his whole life that for prejudice to stop and equal rights to be reached violence has to be left behind. King was a firm believer in peaceful protests and maintained that peaceful protests were the only way to go about earning their basic human rights. King and his followers were taunted and provoked in many ways and yet he maintained that they must be peaceful. ... Kings followers showed extreme loyalty and character during those marches, no matter how much they were provoked, heckled at, assaulted emotionally and physically they kept to King’s methods of peaceful protest. This shows the amount of respect the African American’s had for King and his values. King was these peoples shining light in a dark, black world. ... King was an extremely confident public speaker, being a minister, and also the fact that his father was an accomplished public speaker would have had some bearing on it. King was outspoken in his views on civil rights and equality, something that the white population were not used to, nor liked.
