Millions of Americans today are experiencing obesity and tend to suffer from serious health problems associated with this disease called obesity. Obesity accounts for almost 300,000 premature deaths a year in the United States, second only behind tobacco-related deaths (Obesity.org). Obesity is continuing to take over the lives of Americans. According to an article published in 1998 by the National Institute of Health Issues, 97 million Americans, nearly 55 percent of the adult population is classified as overweight or obese (1998 1). Obesity rates are continuing to grow each year due to an overabundance of food, decrease in physical activity, and poor physical education. It is no secret that obesity is one of the top health problems facing Americans young and old.
