The effect of violent media on children has been an issue in our society for a long time. As technology progresses the issue is becoming more and more controversial. Video games make up a big part of media that children expose themselves to everyday. Technology today allows for more realistic and violent games, which creates the issue to grow. The question is to believe whether or not violent video games affect a child's development. Many studies have shown different outcomes of whether or not violent video games motivate a child to become aggressive individuals.
The American Academy of Family Physicians attended A Congress of Delegates meeting in Dallas where they encouraged its members to tell parents about the video game rating system on every video game sold (Sweeny, Lapp 1953). The Entertainment Software Rating Board provides these video game ratings. The AAFP felt video game retailers should be enforcing these ratings, as well as rental stores, and that parents should monitor what their children are playing.
