People believed Indians to be savages but we have evidence that proves they were not savages as many stereo types made them out to be. Some believed they were devil worshipers and inhuman savages that would eat the flesh off your bones, but some of them believed in a higher being. Some would even help explorers if they were in need and showed knowledge in ways to preserve their crops over winter. Why would someone think that these people were savages if they helped them and new so much on how to use natural resources.
The Indians had many beliefs and a few that were similar to some of the beliefs of the explorers. Some of them said that the explores were from heaven as Christopher Columbus reported "they are not idolaters, but believe that all power and goodness is in heaven, and that I had proceeded from this place with my ships and men." Some of the Indians believed in a "Great Spirit" or God. The Indians said "the Great Spirit who dwells in the skies above, who gives all things useful to men, who is the source and the ruler of health and life." They believed he gave them life and the knowledge of tools and watched over them giving them good health.
The Indians showed great knowledge and were able to navigate the seas among the islands and gave accounts of what they have seen on their voyages...
