Culture Shock
In most areas of life I would consider myself liberal, open, accepting, and even willing to explore the differences in front of me. My background consists of the typical American melting pot, however my melting pot is much closer in generations than most. My birthfather was born and bred a Brit. and my mother an American, growing up in West Virginia. Of course I have the obligatory Irish background on my grandmothers side but in most senses I grew up with a British/American background. I had heard about culture shock. That it is a severe psychological reaction that results from adjusting to the realities of a society radically different from one's own. Also, that actual degree of culture shock may vary depending on the differences and similarities between the society studied and the persons' own society. However, I have been to Europe multiple times and I have even traveled extensively in South America which made me immune, right? Culture shock was a myth for people that didn't understand culture...
