John Barth once said, "Everyone is the hero of his own life story." However, some of us have more difficult stories than others. My best friend Jennifer has survived years of illness, yet inspires me everyday through her optimistic attitude and continual hard work.
We met on the first day of pre-school and became best friends. The first time I realized Jennifer was ill was during her hospitalization for lyme disease. This frightened me, as the previous year we had a mutual friend die. Eventually she was released and the fears faded, but there were side effects of her illness. Jennifer couldn't always run and play like the others. During sleepovers she would take countless pills before bed and again in the morning. But Jennifer's barrage of medicines never fazed me...
