Moonlight dance cruises on Lake Ontario on the Cayuga were amongst favorite pastimes for Torontonians. The 1920s and 30s was a time for change; it brought people new and swell ways of spending their time. There was a dynamic expansion of culture in the break of new times. Instead of becoming ossified, couples hit the dance floors. They enjoyed practicing their moves in posh wardrooms, army messes and ballrooms. The numerous dances they experimented with included the Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Turkey Trot, Cheek to Cheek, Shimmy, Black Bottom, Bunny Hop, Charleston, Butterfly and the Strut.
"The sweetest music this side of heaven", this is what is known as the style of the most popular bandleader to come out of Canada in the 1930s. Native, Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, Carmen, Lebert, and Victor all lived in London, Ontario.
