  There is an old saying that "the course of civilization is a race between catastrophe and education. In a democracy such as ours, we must make sure that education wins the race." Years ago people thought the catastrophe would be caused by wars between nations; however, the catastrophe may be closer to home in our schools. There are many factors that contribute to violence in schools. Parents have a responsibility to help prevent school violence. Schools play a major role in developing a student's mind, body, and spirit.
       Violence in school is a problem because it puts fear in everybody. Many people are scared to death to come to school because of violent students. Numerous students carry weapons to school for self-defense. Violence increases stress, and stress causes restlessness...
