In the Webster's dictionary the word "love" means "strong affection arising out of kinship or personal ties". In the play The Crucible, by Arthur miller, "love" is not always followed by the same definition by the town's people. In this close-knit Puritan society, the abyss of witchcraft is small but known. Two characters, Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams, have many similarities and differences by the way of their external expression, values, and their motivation that drives them on.
Elizabeth Proctor, the wife of John Proctor, is portrayed in this book as a quiet, humble woman. When Mr. Hale asks her if she knows her ten commandments she replies, "Surely I do. Mr. Hale, I am a covenanted Christian."(page 63) Elizabeth shows us that her love for John is unconditional...
