In a book such as Junk, that deals with issues concerning children growing up, you can very often find descriptions of children who thinks that their childhood is the worst and that their parents just do not understand a thing about their lives.
Is this the only way of looking at this issue, that the parents are people who are there to make the lives of their children miserable? Of course, some parents in this particularly story are behaving like they do not feel any love for they children.
I am thinking about e.g. Tar's parent who treats him like a slave or as a punching bag. But even when though they do all these awful things to this young boy, it is not because they do not feel any kind of love for him. This becomes clear to the reader in chapter thirty-one, where you can follow the thoughts of Tar's dad.
This is one of the saddest chapters in the book. It describes a middle-aged man who thinks of his life as a complete failure...
