"Were white and in America what else do we need to have a good time?" Cole Hauser in the film Higher Learning. From director John Singleton "Higher Learning," traces the freshmen year of several students from different racial and economic backgrounds. "This serves as a first taste for isolated teens of the melting pot they've been hearing about since the start of kindergarten," Brian Dillard, All Movie Guide. Set on fictional "Columbus University" campus, this film is filled with overt and subtle arguments concerning a wide variety of social issues, mainly that of the position of African Americans in the academy. Throughout the film Singleton has images of the U.S. flag and a statue of Columbus providing a symbolic meaning. There was also the constant harassment from the campus police, but only towards the male African Americans'. We also see the protagonist in the film Omar Epps and his neo-Nazi foil butt heads throughout the film...
