There were originially three different cases involving public assistance to private schools, some religious, Lemon v. Kurtzman, Earley v. DiCenso, and Robinson v. DiCenso. Ultimately the Supreme Court Decision has become known by the first on the list, Lemon v. Kurtzman, which is the case which I will delve into in this paper.
The Lemon v. Kurtzman Supreme Court Case took place on March 3, 1971 following the passage of Pennsylvania's Nonpublic Elementary and Secondary Education Act in 1968. This law provided for paying the salaries of teachers in parochial schools, assisting in the purchase of textbooks, and other teaching supplies.
